In Latin America, it is quite common for domestic service providers to help or assist families they work with in attending their elderly relatives. This can work quite well if the relative is still relatively independent. Once this independence is lost or affected, it is time to consider hiring a specialized care giver or nurse who will give family members, and the person truly affected by this loss of independence, the peace of mind that comes from having this support and service.
If the assistance provided at home becomes excessive, then it may be time to look into Short or Long Term Care. This can result in less emotional and economic stress for all those involved.
